Continuing in the footprints of its predecessors that included The Rainbow and Pride Awards, the ALSO awards acknowledge and recognise those groups or individuals within our community who strive to contribute creativity, entertainment, education, support and advocacy in many different ways.

From December JOY 94.9 starts it's Summer grid and GLOBAL SOUNDS will be moving to a new time slot, WEDNESDAY nights from 8pm -10pm right after Orange Ribbon. So if you like the diverse sounds of GLOBAL SOUNDS don't forget to tune in from next week on WEDNESDAY nights 8pm - 10pm, we'd like to have you aboard then for another trip listening to GLOBAL SOUNDS.

Miriam Makeba

This programme we'll have interviews with Dave Joseph from Skazz and Hein Arumisore from West Papua. Both performers are part of the Melbourne 2008 World Music Expo.

In addition, previews of other artists appearing at the Australasian World Music Expo and the South Seas Concert.

A tribute to the late Miriam Makeba (4 March 1932 - 9 November 2008), she was a South African singer and civil rights activist. The Grammy Award winning afrobeat artist is often referred to as Mama Afrika.

Fashion in the Field????


Tonight is Cup-Eve here in Melbourne. That is a night of celebration and parties in anticipation of "The Race That Stops A Nation", held on the first Tuesday in November - the Melbourne Cup horse race.

GLOBAL SOUNDS have 'trotted out' our selection of tunes in anticipation of the races on Tuesday. 'Stay the course' with us tonight as we'll be 'galloping home' with some very 'fast-pace' party music later in the show. So 'saddle-up' grab your 'mares', 'fillies', 'horses', and 'geldings' and get ready to 'kick those hooves' in the second half of the show.
